Get the tools and get going!

Learning the technique to a perfect cat eye, smoky eye, contoured face, etc. is all great and dandy. However, without the perfect tools you will be sure to fail any look you are going for! Avoid an EPIC FAIL by investing in a great brush set and learning how to use the tools for success.

When investing in your brush set, you want to be sure to have all the essential brushes to achieve any look you’re going for. Since there are so many brushes to choose from, it’s easy to get confused between the essential and the optional brushes, but no sweat, that’s what we’re here for! It’s best to invest in natural over synthetic for any brush used to apply a powder. Natural bristles are softer, fluffier, and most importantly, they have a cuticle that helps to hold the pigments better. The best makeup brushes are usually blue squirrel, but pony, goat, and sable are all great too. When applying creams or liquids, however, synthetic brushes work great.

Get the essentials:

Powder Brush: Used to apply any lighter coverage powders, like blush or bronzer.

Of course we won’t leave you without any recommendations, so here are some of my favorite brands: For luxury try M·A·C, Sephora, Sigma, or Mary Kay. For budget friendly, try e.l.f., Studio, Eco Tools, Real Techniques, Coastal Scents, or Sonia Kashuk.
